Enterprise Service Bus, integrate systems and applications to achieve business value

Global Knowledge
There is constantly more demand for a good enterprise service bus (ESB), but what is an ESB? Does it have advantages in relation to programming everything yourself? I will explain further in this blog post the advantages of an ESB and how IBM can accelerate your time to market with the IBM Integration Bus.

What is an ESB?

An ESB is a software solution that helps IT systems communicate with each other in a simple and standardized way. It is also a set of rules that are applicable for the integration of IT systems.

In order to make the communication possible between IT systems, the ESB offers a customized interface on which communication between the IT systems can occur. In most cases, this interface is a web service. The ESB offers each system its own unique interface that has been specifically applied to the specifications of the relevant system. The ESB will ensure that the proper information originating from an IT system is transformed into the appropriate file format of a different IT system. All of the IT systems can communicate with each other via the communication bus, without requiring each system to understand each other’s technical specifications.
The ESB integration options are usually used and reused within a Service-oriented architecture (SOA), where exchange of services takes place between the IT systems. Integrating ESB components creates a standard manner of communication between IT systems.

In summary, an ESB provides the communication standardization between IT systems and transforms the information into the proper format. The ESB also monitors the communication traffic, ensuring that it runs securely. The corresponding benefit is that the communication is simplified and standardized, as a result of which reuse is possible, resulting in faster development time.

IBM Integration Bus

The IBM Integration Bus is an ESB that offers a quick and easy way to have IT systems and applications communicate with each other, resulting in cost savings and reduced complexity.

The IBM Integration Bus is compatible with a wide range of integration options and interfaces that are already present within the organization. The IBM Integration Bus also offers the option to run business transaction monitoring (BTM) and is an important platform for API economy and analytics. The IBM Integration Bus can also connect the existing “on premise” environment with the Mobile and Cloud environment so that a hybrid integration platform is created.
